Curriculum
Sunrise Nursery works alongside the Early years foundation stage; babies and toddlers focus on the prime areas including Personal, social, and emotional development (PSED), communication and language (CL), physical development (PD). The children (3 – 4-year-olds) focus on all seven areas of learning.
Children’s learning is promoted through the seven areas of learning:
• Communication and Language (PRIME AREA)
This area will provide children with opportunities to experience a rich language environment and to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves. They will speak and listen in a range of different situations.
• Physical development (PRIME AREA)
Children will be provided with opportunities to be active and interactive. This will help to develop their co – ordination. Control and movement. Children must also be guided to understand the importance of physical activity and to make healthy choice in relation to their food intake.
• Personal, social, and emotional development (PRIME AREA)
Children will develop a positive sense of themselves and others. This will then help them to form positive relationships and develop respect for others. Children will develop their social skills and learn how to manage their feelings.
• Literacy
This area of learning involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters together to begin to read and write. Children will be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
• Mathematics
Children will be provided with the opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting. They will then use their counting skills to calculate simple addition and subtraction problems. They will learn to describe shapes, spaces, and measures.
• Understanding the world
Children will be given the time to make sense of the physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.
• Expressive arts and design
This area involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. It also provides opportunities and encouragement for children to share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through art, music. Movement, dance, role play and design and technology.
KEY PERSON
Our main principle in our nursery is to treat every child as an autonomous individual. We start to do this from the very first moment your child comes to our nursery. With your help, we begin to understand your child’s likes, dislikes, and formation of their character. We then match them to a key person who helps them to settle in and make most of their nursery days fun and playful. Your child key person is a parent’s main point of contact within the nursery. The key person of your child will guide you through your child’s day and will work with you through such milestones such as potty training, transition to schools and so on. Your child’s key person will help them to become familiar with the nursery setting and to feel confident and safe within it.
